Supercell Gets Additional Funding from Tekes
Supercell, the Finnish gaming company that secured $12 million in a series A funding in May, has managed to strengthen their balance sheet even more with the help of Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. Tekes announced last week that it has granted an undisclosed amount of funding to Supercell.
The funding was granted as a part of a Tekes project, which offers funding for young innovative companies. The program is separated into three funding phases, each targeted at supporting the needs of companies in different stages of internalization. Companies may apply to the program if they are on the threshold of fast international growth, and have products with high market potential.
Supercell is building a new generation of online games, which utilize social networking features and a novel cloud-based backend. Supercell currently employs 40 game industry professionals, and it’s growing rapidly after having opened a new game studio in Kajaani, Finland in the summer. Supercell’s first game, Gunshine.net, has already reached over 1 million users, and its revolutionary backend solution is likely to provide a sustainable competitive advantage also in the future.
